04.08.2009 CER Algarve 2009 - Results ... back

The third round of the CER Series was run at the new Algarve circuit. The track fullfiled all the expectations we had: rollercoaster-like, up and down, blind corners and some high-speed cornering. It is definitely worth a visit. George Tuma, Siggi and Philipp Brunn raced the Porsche RSR and the Sauber C5. During the longer break after the Spa race both cars had undergone some improve-ments. George managed to improve his lap times constantly over the weekend and was able to compete with the quickest 911s in the field. This resulted in his best finish on 4th place in the GT2 class.

Philipp set quickest time overall with the Sauber C5 in the first practice session, almost two seconds ahead of the quickest rivals.

Due to the high ambient temperatures the team used the first qualifying session to test some cooling modifications and could not improve the lap time compared to free practice, dropping down to 8th place. Second qualifying was used to fine tune the set-up of the car, resulting in 5th place overall on the grid. The race also brought improvements compared to Spa, finally finishing 4th overall. Third place would have been possible, but some problems on the shift linkage made the use of first gear impossible in the second half of the race. The problem will be addressed for the next race at the Nürburgring and should be solved by then.
