The first event of the Classic Endurance Racing Series took place at Barcelona / Ciucuit de Catalunya. Everything was set for a great season opener. The entry list showed 43 cars: Porsche 908/3 Turbo, March 74 S, Ferrari 712, Lola T298, Lola T280, Sauber C5, Chevron B21, Lola T70, BMW M1, Porsche RSR, Porsche 935, ...

After a successful 2008 season Brunn Racing had a difficult start in 2009. George Tumas 3.0 RSR was second quickest Porsche 911 in the first practice session. In the remaining sessions an intermittend fault in the engine wiring loom slowed the car down.

The Sauber C5 showed its potential in all of the practice sessions. Unluckily a fault on the head gasket during qualifying forced the team to stop the car.

• Free Practice 1: 4th overall, 3rd in class
• Free Practice 2: 5th overall, 4th in class
• Qualifying: 4th fastest running lap
